Jacksonville FL — Permanent repairs to a damaged finger joint on the southbound side of the Buckman Bridge will begin Friday night beginning at 9. We reported in May when temporary repairs were needed at the hump of the bridge, closing it down for hours during the morning rush.
Hampton Ray with the Florida Department of Transportation says you can expect double lane closures from 9 PM Friday through 5 AM Monday morning.
“We’re gonna make sure it’s done as quickly and as safely as possible. We’re doing it only on the weekend”. Ray says.
The repair work will take place over the next six consecutive weekends.
Additionally, the ramps from US 17 onto 295 south will be closed while repair work is ongoing. Ray says this is to make for a smoother flow of traffic while double lane closures are in place.
“Our goal is to maintain a steady flow of, uh, of traffic on I-295 itself”. Ray says.
Ray says if you are planning on traveling through the area over the next several weekends to pack your patience and expect delays through the area.
“Just plan ahead, use some patience, stay off your phone, don’t speed”. Ray says.
Repair work is currently scheduled to be completed in late August, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
