ST. JOHNS, Fla. — Action News Jax has confirmed with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office that it was a teenage girl who was taken to the hospital after being injured by a lightning strike near the Fruit Cove and Switzerland areas of St. Johns County on Saturday.

Residents were startled by a loud bang, leading to the arrival of first responders on the scene near Roberts Road off State Road 13.

Neighbors reported seeing Deputies and St. Johns County Fire Rescue responding to the incident at a home where it appeared a tree with a swing was damaged.

There is no word on the condition of the teenage girl.

According to the Action News Jax First Alert Weather team, there was a lightning strike near the location sometime before 4 p.m.

The lightning was part of a storm system that came through Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia and produced showers and storms.
