A Duval County student brought a loaded gun to a Westside school last week, contrary to the district's original statement that it was unloaded.

Last Friday, an 11 year-old student was arrested after he brought a .25-caliber Raven semi-automatic handgun to Sadie Tillis Elementary.  Afterwards, Duval County Public Schools spokesman Mark Sherwood said it was an “unloaded” gun.

The police report released on Wednesday says there were five rounds in the magazine.  Sherwood says their statement was based on the district’s definition of a “loaded” gun as having “bullets in the chamber.”

The student has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property, a third-degree felony.  Duval Schools tells us his parents have not been charged.
