Police Shooter at Baptist South Identified

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has identified the gunman in a shooting that wounded JSO officer Taylor Smith on Tuesday Night.

38-year-old Jeffery Alan Martin was killed by police at the scene. Records show Jeffrey Martin has never faced criminal charges within Duval County, and only has a history of traffic violations.

Officer Smith is still hospitalized at UNF after being shot in the face.

It happened Tuesday night when officers tried to stop Martin in the parking lot of Baptist Medical Center South.

This is the third time an officer has been wounded on duty so far this year.
