Jacksonville, FL — Just over a month until the mid-term election and the race for U.S. Senate in Florida appears to be as close as everyone is projecting.
A poll by Jacksonville-based Mason-Dixon shows Senator Bill Nelson leading Governor Rick Scott by one point. That's a shift over July when Scott held a three-point advantage.
The number of undecided voters was 7%, the lowest it has been since Mason-Dixon began surveying this race in February of 2017.
The poll was conducted early last week, before the two men had their first debate and before the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
According to the poll, Nelson has widened his lead among Hispanics by over 10-points. He led by only 44%-39% in July.
Nelson also pulled ahead among voters with no party affiliation. He previously trailed by 47%-43%.
The Mason-Dixon poll found Nelson remains strong among women 54%-38%, Democrats 84%-9% and black voters 84%-5%.
Scott still holds a sizeable advantage with men 56%-38%, Republicans 85%-10% and whites 57%-37%. Scott holds a wide margin in North Florida, 56%-34%.
