Principal to Sandalwood families: ‘Multiple COVID-19 cases may have impacted campus’

Three Duval County schools are currently closed and teaching virtually, including Fletcher, Douglas Anderson, and Providence School of Jacksonville as of Wednesday.

Families at Sandalwood High School learned multiple COVID-19 cases are impacting campus.

Teachers worry their school could be next to close.

An email sent to Sandalwood staff Tuesday night states that they are “working with the Department of Health on multiple cases of COVID-19 that may have impacted our campus.”

The email was sent out after 6 p.m.

The Department of Health is now conducting contact tracing, but some teachers fear their school may be next to shut down.

“We’re all concerned that Sandalwood High School, the largest school in the district, may be the next that needs to close temporarily,” Shannon Russell-Hinds, an 11th grade English teacher, said.

The Duval County Public Schools COVID-19 dashboard currently reports four cases, with the last cases posted Oct. 19.

Action News Jax has reached out to the district about the latest school showing an uptick of cases.

We will update this story when we hear back.
