Rep. Yoho: Time for President to be proactive on Ebola

Ted Yoho Congressman Ted Yoho (R-Fla.)

President Obama needs to step up his response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, according to Republican Congressman Ted Yoho.

“We’re not being proactive now,” he says.  “This is a time for the President to lead and be proactive.”

Yoho has co-signed a bipartisan letter to President Obama along with 25 other members of Congress asking him to institute a travel ban and restrict visas to keep people with Ebola from getting into the U.S.

“We should step up as a nation and say this is what’s best for America,” Yoho says.

He says the travel ban would not prevent health care workers from going to West Africa and coming back.  They would need to be quarantined before leaving the countries and when they return to the U.S.

This week the Obama Administration approved temperature screenings at five major U.S. airports.  Yoho says it's good to see the government doing something, but it's not enough.  He says temperature screenings aren't diagnostic, and fever symptoms can be reduced with certain medications such as ibuprofen.

Yoho says he doesn’t want to cause a panic, but he feels people have a right to be nervous about Ebola if the U.S. does not put the right safeguards in place.
