Jacksonville, FL — By sunlight on Monday, search and rescue teams were back in the air and the water to search for a Jacksonville firefighter and his friend. Brian McCluney and Justin Walker never returned from a fishing trip on Friday, they were about five miles off-shore from Cape Canaveral.
McCluney works at Fire Station #31 on the westside, where his brothers say they’re hopeful for a happy ending to the search. Walker is a master technician for the Fairfax County, Virginia Fire and Rescue Department.
The pair was last seen leaving the 300 Christopher Columbus boat ramp Friday in a 24-foot center console boat heading toward 8A Reef.
The U.S. Coast Guard says it has searched more than 24,000 square miles over 70 hours over the weekend.
The Jacksonville Association of Firefighters set up a donation website Sunday for people to help with a search that has extended from Port Canaveral to north of Jacksonville and 80 miles off shore.
