Body recovered after construction worker falls off barge near the Fuller Warren Bridge

Jacksonville, FL — A body has been recovered, as part of the search for a construction worker who fell from a barge near the Fuller Warren Bridge.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the Florida Highway Patrol, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and Navy all assisted in the search, which started in the early afternoon. JSO says their Dive Team has since recovered the body.

FDOT confirms this crew was working on the I-10/I-95 improvements project, which includes expanding the Fuller Warren to increase capacity on I-95 northbound and southbound. A statement on behalf of the contractor involved, Archer Western, says work  is being suspended on their construction project, while this incident is being investigated.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the worker’s family and our sincere thanks to the first responders for all of their effort,” reads the statement, in part.

FDOT says it is unclear how long work will be suspended, and any impact that will have on the project overall. Archer Western’s contract for this project is worth more than $117 million, according to FDOT’s contract records.

JSO says, at this time, this is being investigated as an accident. OSHA tells us they are investigating the incident.
