Shahid Khan introduced as Jaguars' new owner

Shahid Khan introduced as Jags owner

It's official.  Shahid Khan is the new owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Sporting a striped, slate-colored suit with a satin tie of Jaguar teal and his mustache looking as formidable as ever, Khan was officially introduced to the media following the NFL's approval of the Jaguars' sale.

"Here I am, reporting for duty and ready to serve.  Let the fun begin," said Khan at a press conference following the NFL owners meeting in Dallas where they voted unanimously to approve the team's sale.

Khan says it's an exciting day, but also a sobering day because he knows there is a lot of responsibility and commitment involved with owning an NFL team.  But he says he's ready to face the challenge, and wants to do right by Jacksonville.

"This is a partnership with the fans, and they have to come and support the team, but I am committed obviously to the rebirth and reinvigoration, doing whatever it takes to put a winner on the field, and really make Wayne and the rest of Jacksonvillians proud."

WOKV had a chance to speak with Mr. Khan himself, and asked him what he could say to the fans to assure them the team wouldn't uproot. He replied with a straight up answer, saying simply that the team isn't going anywhere and that he thanks everyone for their support.

"I saw the Monday night game obviously and absolutely a phenomenal good looking crowd with the mustaches and all," says Khan.

As far as Khan implenting a marketing strategy for his infamous mustache, he said that no strategy could have topped the amount of heartfelt he felt from the fans.

Wayne Weaver says today is bittersweet for him.

"18 great years in the National Football League, and I've enjoyed every one of them, and it's hard to break away, but it's the right time, and like I said, I found a graet family that's going to continue this legacy that we worked so hard to build."

Shahid Khan says he plans to visit Jacksonville this weekend.  He says he'll meet sponsors, key employees, and some of the city leaders during his visit.

"It's been so heartwarming and memorable for me to have been embraced the way I have been," says Khan.

He's expected to introduce himself to Jacksonville at an event at Everbank at 3 p.m. on Friday.

When asked if Khan would ever bring business like his FLEX-N-GATE company, he said that once he gets settled he will continue to look for opportunities.

The official transfer of ownership will not take place until January 4, 3 days after the Jags' final game of the regular season.
