St. Augustine — Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine/St. Johns County receives a $15,000 grant from Wells Fargo to build a home for a 38-year old disabled veteran who received a purple heart after being wounded in Iraq.
The home will be built in St. Augustine’s Canopy Oaks Development.
The Wells Fargo grant is part of a $7.75 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International from its nationwide initiative Wells Fargo Builds Program that assists low-to-moderate income families build and remodel homes across America.
In a recent statement, Malinda Everson, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine/St. Johns County described the ability to find affordable housing in St. Johns County as a struggle due to rising inflation and the high costs of housing. She said that many residents “are facing homelessness and living in substandard conditions.”
“Far too many people across the country are facing housing instability, and one of our key priorities is to create housing affordability solutions where everyone can have a safe and affordable place to call home,” said Valerie Jenkins, North Florida’s VP of Social Impact and Sustainability at Wells Fargo in a recent press release.
“We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity in providing homeownership opportunities for hundreds of families nationwide through Wells Fargo Builds.”
Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine/St. Johns County has built 158 homes for individuals and families in need. Their fourth neighborhood development - Volusia Woods - will begin in 2023.
