St. Johns County deputies say incident involving fugitive led to closure of I-95 NB near SR 207

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says I-95 northbound just north of SR 207 had to be closed Wednesday afternoon as part of a multi-agency response involving a fugitive.

According to SJSO, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle traveling on I-95, which had been flagged as a violent felon fleeing from an incident in South Florida. When the driver refused to stop, deputies say they were forced to deploy stop sticks to end the pursuit.

At that point, SJSO says the vehicle reportedly crashed and the suspect inside apparently sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation into what exactly happened is still very active, so further details will be released at a later time.
