ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The St. Johns Board of County Commissioners recognizes November 8th as the third Annual Israel Friendship Day, after unveiling a new art exhibit honoring the 75th anniversary of Israel.
The exhibit called, “Israel at 75: The Pioneering Spirit” features four colorful paintings that is part of a collaboration with the Mishkan Museum Of Art in Ein Harod. The artists illustrate how their country of origin affects their migration to the Holy Land, according to a press release by St. Johns County.
City officials, deputies, rabbis, and members of the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Northeast Florida prayed together and pledged allegiance to the American Flag in a ceremony that reaffirmed the solidarity behind Israel.
In a speech from Rabbi Mendel Sharfstein, with the Chabad of St. Johns County, he reiterates how important it is to the Jewish Community to see local support after the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel.
“Israel Friendship Day - that is an incredible statement,” Rabbi Sharfstein says. “We all know what happened in Israel as the terrorist perpetrated a heinous and barbaric attack of sheer evil that shocked the world.”
St. Johns County Comptroller, Brandon Patty says the Jewish community has had a long-standing relationship in the area and the city supports them.
“It’s so important to stand side by side with them, in order to be able to help them get through what was a horrific attack two weeks ago,” Patty says.
County Commissioners, along with the Jewish Federation shook hands as they signed the 2023 proclamation designating November 8th as St. Johns County - Israel Friendship Day.
