ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The driver responsible for a 2021 St. Augustine trolley crash that injured 12 people has pled no contest and has been sentence for two of his seven charges.

Gregory Robinson, 72, was charged with six counts of reckless driving with serious bodily and one charge of reckless driving with damage to a person or property after he crashed the trolley he was driving in July 2021.
In the police report, several passengers told detectives they recalled the driver saying a variation of “hold onto your hats, hold onto your children” before he “gunned it” and “started going really fast.”
Body cam video revealed that people were thrown from the train, and all 12 injured people had to be transported to the hospital.

Several of the injured passengers have since sued Robinson, Historic Tours of America, Inc., Old Town Trolley Tours of St. Augustine and others for negligence in eight separate lawsuits. Each lawsuit is still pending.
On March 17, 2023, Robinson pled no contest to one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury and to his count of reckless driving with damage to a person or property. He was sentenced to 5 years probation and is required to complete 100 hours of community service as a result.

As for the other charges, Robinson will continue his legal process in veterans treatment court. His next court date is set for May 23.
