Student with gun arrested at Mandarin High School

Jacksonville, FL — A Mandarin High School student has been arrested after being found with a firearm.

The Duval County Public School District confirms school administration was investigating a group of students in an unauthorized area, when they found one of the students in possession of a gun. The weapon was confiscated and the student was taken in to custody and arrested. DCPS says the student faces criminal charges and possible expulsion.

Nobody was hurt during the incident.

The school Principal is urging parents to speak with your children about the consequences of bringing a weapon on the school grounds.

“Encourage positive conflict resolution strategies and emphasize the importance of notifying a trusted adult whenever your child feels threatened,” says a robocall from the Principal.

Parents are also asked to monitor your child’s belongings, in an effort to make the school a safe learning environment.
