Suite night club shooting suspect accused of witness tampering

Toray Ricketts (Jacksonville Sheriff's Office)

Jacksonville, FL — The trial for the man accused of a fatal shooting outside of Suite almost a year ago has been pushed off, because he is now facing a new charge.

Court records show Toray Ricketts has now been charged with tampering with a witness, victim, or informant in a first degree felony proceeding. His arrest report says Rickett’s directly questioned a state’s witness about what she planned to say at trial and asked her to not show up.

On a second occasion- only 2.5 months before trial- Ricketts had a visit from a girlfriend, during which time they spoke about contacting the witness, where to find her, and intimidating her “through threats and violence” to prevent her testimony, according to the arrest report. Police say Ricketts even used another inmate’s information during the visit, to try to prevent the conversation from being discovered.

Additionally, Ricketts allegedly spoke about the case with other inmates and asked for their help contacting the witness once those other inmates were out of jail.

Jury selection had been scheduled to begin this past Monday, but that’s been pushed off. Ricketts will be back in court for a hearing next month.

He's awaiting trial for the fatal shooting of Sina Sharifai, which happened outside of Suite last March. A dispute started inside the club, but spilled in to the parking lot and turned physical. Suite has since closed.
