Jacksonville, Fl — Calling it a much needed start, Jacksonville’s Sulzbacher Center cut the ribbon this morning on phase one of Enterprise Village in Brentwood.
CEO Cindy Funkhouser says 100 studio and one-bedroom apartments are ready to move in.
“We’re 47,000 affordable housing units short in Jacksonville, and so 100 seems like the tip of the iceberg,” Funkhouser told Jacksonville’s Morning News.
Sulzbacher’s expansive new project will provide housing, wrap around services and eventually a manufacturing plant with jobs for unhoused and most vulnerable men.
Phase one includes 100 studio and one-bedroom apartments, with the first residents moving in this week.
Construction of the $37 million development began last year. It was funded through low income housing tax credits, investors and donors including Delores Barr Weaver. The city of Jacksonville, through unspent COVID funds, also funded a portion of it.
The other two phases include a clinic in partnership with Mayo Clinic and corporate headquarters and assisted living. It should all be completed within the next two years once Sulzbacher raises and receives the necessary funding.
