Surge in RV sales and rentals during pandemic

An estimated 25 million Americans on average go RVing each year, according to the RV Industry Association, and interest has been on the rise for a while.

According to a RV Industry Association survey, fifty-one percent of those that plan to take any RV trip this year reported that current health concerns increased their interest in RV camping – much higher than any of the other travel options.

Salem Hassan who is the president of Travel Camp of Jacksonville said sales have doubled this year compared to last year.

Hassan says he is having trouble keeping up with demand because manufacturers were forced to shut down due to the coronavirus.

Hassan told Action News Jax many people purchasing an RV are first-time buyers looking for their own personal space. He expects it to be 2021 before his inventory will return to normal.

It’s a similar story at Camping World of Jacksonville. A spokesperson tells me items are flying off the racks, as more people turn to outdoor activities this summer.
