Jacksonville, FL — The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam popping up in the area.
They’re calling it the “Survey Agent Job Scam.” Deputies say it starts with someone getting an envelope or package from either USPS or Fed-Ex with a cashier’s check inside, along with a letter saying they have been selected to evaluate retail stores and get paid.
The first step involves cashing the checks, going to a store, and buying gift cards. After the victims buy the cards – they are asked to send pictures of the number of the back to the fake survey job phone number.
The Sheriff’s Office says scammers just want the numbers on the gift card, so they can spend them before the victim even realizes they have been scammed.
SCAM ALERT: SURVEY SCAM IN NASSAU COUNTY. If you receive a package like this tear it up and throw it away. Please call the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office non–emergency line at 904-225-5174 for verification of any potential scams. STAY SAFE! pic.twitter.com/syjlCHUKFR
