Citizen tips lead to Moncrief murder suspect

Jacksonville Police are searching for murder suspect Marvin Williams

Jacksonville, FL — Within just an hour of asking the public for help tracking down the man accused of killing a woman in her Moncrief home earlier this week, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says that suspect is now in custody.

JSO named Marvin Williams a suspect for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Cassandra Valentin. Officers and a JFRD crew found the body on Monday evening inside a home on Frank E Avenue, after getting a call to check on her well-being.  The incident report says Valentin was found in the hallway of the home, after first responders breached the rear door. JSO says she was fatally stabbed.

Court records show Valentin had filed several domestic violence complaints against Williams in the past, including saying he hit her and strangled her. Police say the two were living together at the time of Valentin’s murder.

JSO says after releasing information about the suspect to the public, they received numerous tips, which led them to Baptist South Hospital, off of Old St. Augustine Road, where Williams was working construction.  When officers surrounded the area, police Williams attempted to flee on foot, but was caught in the parking lot of a nearby hotel.

JSO says the investigation is still active and ongoing.
