Three facing charges in shooting death of West Nassau High teen

Family: West Nassau teen dies following shooting

Jacksonville, FL — The mother of a West Nassau High School teenager who was shot on Monday says Trent Fort has died.  The 16-year-old had been critically wounded in the shooting in the Spring Lakes Estates neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

Nassau County Sheriff’s Deputies on Tuesday morning announced three people are in custody and will face charges in connection to the shooting, which occurred during a drug sale.

The suspected shooter is facing a violation of probation for gun possession. The 17-year-old will eventually be charged with murder, according to deputies.  A second suspect was arrested in the woods, he had possession of the gun at the time.

Deputies say the unnamed suspect and Fort knew each other, and both attended West Nassau High. Deputies were still seeking information from witnesses, many of whom have been uncooperative.

The Sheriff’s Office and Nassau County Schools provided enhanced security at West Nassau High School this morning, and deputies say that will remain in effect throughout the week.

Everyone involved in the shooting is either 16 or 17-years-old. Deputies did not release any of their names.
