ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — A 19-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound he received early Sunday at the Pier Village on St. Simons Island. Glynn County police responded to the area at about 12:54 a.m. in response to shots fired.
During their investigation, officers learned that a fight occurred in the area prior to the shooting, a Glynn County police news release states. Officers made contact with Sheldon Whorley, 25, of Brunswick determining that he was the shooter, the news release states.
At about 4:30 a.m., officers were notified about the victim who arrived at the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus emergency room with a gunshot wound, the news release states. His injury is non-life-threatening and “believed to be connected to the earlier shots fired incident,” the news release states.
Whorley was booked into the Glynn County Detention Center and faces an aggravated assault charge, the news release states.
