The University of North Florida is urging students to be on alert after a battery on the campus.
A residential student was responding to a Craigslist ad from a single father seeking a babysitter. After speaking online, they decided to meet in a parking lot near the Library Wednesday night, according to a Timely Warning sent by UNF.
As the two were talking in the suspect’s car, he offered to pay $1,700 a week for the babysitting job, but also mentioned that he needed a “friend”. She said she wasn’t comfortable with that, and the man then touched her in the crotch area, according to the Timely Warning. They continued talking, and the suspect then touched the student’s breast over her shift.
The Timely Warning says the student then got out of the car and contacted University Police.
The suspect is described as a 45-year-old white man, about 6’, with a fat stomach and dark complexion. His car is a four-door gold Honda with a partial license plate tag IUW. UNF says the investigation is ongoing, but they’re classifying the crime as a misdemeanor battery at this point.
If you have any information about this suspect or incident, you’re asked to contact UNF Police at 904-620-2800. Police are also warning you to use extreme caution when responding to online ads.
