Jacksonville, FL — The University of North Florida is issuing a warning to students to be on guard for a new phishing email scam.
UNF says they're not aware of any attacks targeting their students, but says the scam has been making the rounds at other Florida public universities, including Florida Gulf Coast.
According to UNF, scammers are using directed attacks in the form of phishing emails and fake websites that look like official university systems, in hopes of tricking students to disclose their log-in credentials. Once the scammers have that information, UNF says they're then using that log-in information to redirect financial reimbursements by changing where direct deposits go.
UNF releasing the following security practices when dealing with sensitive information:
UNF says if students have further questions on such attacks, they recommend emailing ITSecurity@unf.edu or calling the Help Desk at (904) 620-HELP.
