Jacksonville, FL — With your holiday spirit hopefully still running high, police want to make sure thieves don’t spoil the cheer.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is warning you to be careful how you throw out the boxes from high-value gifts you received. If you put large boxes for electronics and other items out on the curb, it can be a beacon for burglars who now know what they could potentially target in your home.
So many got TV’s, electronics, gaming systems and other cool items for Christmas. We know because we see boxes in your trash when we ride by. If we saw it, a would-be burglar will too. Break boxes down and place in garbage bags. Don’t give thieves an after holiday gift.

Instead, JSO is encouraging you to break down those boxes and put them in the heavy weight black trash bags.
You should also use caution when posting about pricey gifts on social media.
