Arlington gas station owner shot during armed robbery

Jacksonville, FL — A man has been shot during an armed robbery at a BP gas station that he owns.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the suspect walked in to the store off Arlington Road and the Arlington Expressway a little after 10:30AM. He allegedly demanded money from the victim, and even though police say the victim complied, the suspect shot him in the torso and then fled.

JSO initially identified the victim as a clerk who may also have owned the location. Family of the victim tells our partner Action News Jax that he was the owner, and he is in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

JSO has released surveillance footage of the suspect. Police confirm these photos are the same man, although it appears to be two separate incidents. JSO will not confirm at this time whether the suspect is believed to be connected to another crime.

The suspect is described as a black man who’s around 6’, 240 lbs. He was wearing a teal shirt with a Jaguars emblem on the front, black shorts, black shoes, black sunglasses, and a black hat. Police say he was armed with a black and silver handgun.

JSO says one other person was in the store, but left when he realized a robbery was taking place. Police say they are speaking with witnesses at the scene, but nobody saw the suspect get in a vehicle after he walked north through the parking lot. The suspect did get an undisclosed amount of money.
