Jacksonville FL — Monday is the registration deadline if you want to change your party affiliation or register to vote before the August 18th primary. Florida is a closed primary state, which means you can only vote in the primary of the party affiliation. If you’d like to register you can learn more information at NorthFloridaVotes.com.

St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes says you can also go to the DMV or public libraries to register to vote in person.

“You can actually just print an application right out from our website, if you need a paper one, and it does need to be postmarked by Monday July the 20th.” Oakes says.

Clay County Supervisor of Elections Chris Chambless says you can also register to vote at registertovoteflorida.gov.

“Its very important for those that, that wish to register to get engaged into the primary election.” Chambless says.

He says due to a number of write-in candidates in various races, the Clay elections office is seeing a large increase of people changing their party, so they can vote in races for sheriff, school superintendent and tax collector.

Early voting begins in Clay and St. Johns counties on August 6th and in Duval County it begins on August 3rd.
