Witness: Pregnant woman ejected in I-295 crash

A two-car crash on I-295 and 103rd Ave. ejected a pregnant woman, a witness said.

The crash happened around noon on Thursday, causing all northbound lanes to be blocked for around an hour. A car carrying four people, including the pregnant woman, crashed and rolled multiple times. The two children inside that car are expected to be OK.

The Florida Highway Patrol report shows the driver was drifting from the center lane to the left and collided with an SUV driving in the left lane. When she overcorrected back to the right, her car ran into a guard rail and caused it to flip at least once.

The pregnant woman was ejected through the rear window.

The driver of the car was cited for careless driving and improper child restraint because a 1-year-old passenger was secured by only an adult seat belt.

The pregnant woman was taken to UF Health under  a trauma alert.

The car's gas tank ruptured and caught fire. The crash backed up traffic on I-295 for miles as the road was shut for over an hour, and fuel was was spilled over the road.

The backups were so severe that motorists were spotted making U-turns against traffic to escape the roadway.
