Jacksonville, FL — With the IRS beginning the process of sending out stimulus checks, WOKV's Consumer Warrior Clark Howard is warning about a new scam that's popped up.
"People get a text that says, 'Click here to find out the delivery date for your stimulus check,' or whatever, and you click on those links in the texts and you've just downloaded a virus to your phone," Howard says.
Howard says that's why it's important to never click links in any texts or emails that you receive.
"Never, never, never, not ever, click on any link in any email or text, even one that pretends to be from the IRS, your bank, your credit union, whatever. Don't click on those links," says Howard.
Howard says if there’s something you may need to access, go to the website directly.
"Go to your browser on your phone or your computer, or the app for your bank on your phone, and go to it that way, but never from a link," Howard explains.
