JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman is dead after the SUV she was driving early Thursday was hit by an Amtrak train in Moncrief. It happened at about 6:30 a.m. in the 6100 block of Moncrief Road.

The driver, identified as a woman in her 30’s, was traveling eastbound when she was hit by the train that was headed southbound, Jacksonville police said at a news conference Thursday morning.

The railroad crossing gate was down and the woman drove around it, police said adding that the train was traveling at about 79 miles per hour.

The train, which originated in Chicago bound for Tampa, had 150 passengers onboard, police said. None of them were injured.
