Woman committed to mental health facility after reporting a gunman at UNF

Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has involuntarily committed a 74-year-old woman to a mental health facility after she called police warning about a gunman at the University of North Florida.

A statement from the UNF Crisis Management team says campus operations are back to normal after police said there was no threat to the campus. The family of the woman who called in the report told police she has been having some issues with her mental health which led JSO to take the action it did.

The woman’s identity was not released by the university or by Jacksonville Police.
