The Wounded Warrior Project has appointed retired Lt. General Michael Linnington as it’s Chief Executive Officer.

Linnington will assume duties on July 18th, after serving as the director of the Defense Department's POW/MIA Accounting Agency since 2015. He served as command of the Third Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“Mike’s extensive military experience and proven leadership credentials make him the perfect candidate to lead WWP,” said Anthony Odierno, Chairman of the WWP Board of Directors in a statement released to WOKV. “Mike understands the unique needs of our nation’s veteran community, is a collaborative team-builder, and is deeply committed to fulfilling our mission of honoring and empowering Wounded Warriors. I am excited for WWP’s path forward under his leadership.”

Chief Operating Officer Major General Charlie Fletcher will remain with WWP during the transition, according to the organization.

Former CEO Steven Nardizzi and former COO Al Giordano were fired in March over allegations of lavish spending on organization retreats and events.
Accusations also highlighted WWP's claim of spending 80.6 percent of its budget on services for veterans, which the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary believes is much lower. The committee asked for a response to a letter of questions by June 1.
