Jacksonville, FL — A man has been arrested for felony murder and burglary, in connection to a Westside home invasion where a second suspect was killed.
WOKV first reported on the home invasion on Friday, when police said the homeowner had fatally shot a suspect who had broken in to his home while he was inside. JSO now says there was a second suspect involved, and that man- 18-year-old Christopher Mangham- has now been arrested.
The homeowner reportedly told police that he was watching TV when he heard someone knocking loudly on his front door and ringing his doorbell many times, and he then saw someone at the screen door of his back porch. The homeowner armed himself with his gun, according to JSO, and then heard his front door get kicked in as he was trying to call 911. Police say the homeowner then shot the suspect who had forced his way in, who they identify as 37-year-old Demetrile Davis. Davis fled the home, and JSO says they found Mangham trying to revive Davis nearby, but emergency responders pronounced him dead. Davis was wearing surgical gloves and a hood, according to JSO.
Florida law allows a suspect involved in the commission of a felony to be arrested on a charge of felony murder, if there is a death that occurs as a result of the commission of that felony, even if the suspect didn’t directly do the killing. In this case, police say the homeowner was the gunman, but Mangham was involved in the break-in which led to Davis’ death, so Mangham has been arrested for felony murder.
