There's still no plea deal for 12-year-old Cristian Fernandez. But we're now learning that he could face new charges that could put him in prison for life.

WOKV spoke with State Attorney Angela Corey who told us new charges will be filed against Fernandez but couldn't go into any further detail.

“I can tell you that we have known about those charges. But we were trying to work them out along with the murder case,” says Corey.

She continued on to say that the new charges were always going to be filed, but that they were holding off until they reached a plea agreement.

What WOKV does know is that reports were filed with allegations of sexual abuse and assault with another half brother of Fernandez.

“At this stage right now, we’re going to go ahead and file those charges as we properly should. I have a 5-year-old victim that I have to represent,” says Corey.

Fernandez is accused of beating his 2-year-old half brother to death back in March and is the youngest ever to be charged with murder in Jacksonville's history.

Corey says those new charges will be filed Thursday.

Because a plea deal hasn’t been reached, Fernandez’s trial date has been set for February 27.
