Meth lab investigation at Southside apartment complex

Bomb Squad on the Southside (Andrew Greenstein)

It's the latest in a strong of meth lab investigations.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Jacksonville Fire Rescue were on the scene of a possible meth lab at the Woodhollow Apartments, 1715 Hodges Blvd., throughout Thursday afternoon and evening.

"During that investigation, they observed chemicals inside an apartment," said Larry Schmitt, Assistant Chief of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.  "The number of chemicals and the amount of chemicals led them to believe the chemicals are possibly some sort of meth lab."

Fire trucks and ambulances were parading in and out of the apartment complex throughout the afternoon.

Four units were sealed off, and the apartment management company had to find overnight accomodations for the tenants living there.

One person is under arrest.

Schmitt says there are things you can look for in a possible meth lab.

"If any of the residents start to smell something that doesn't seem quite right, (if) it's got a chemical, kind of a pungent smell, call us (and) let us come check it out."
