The body which washed ashore at the Guana River State Park is a UNF student who went missing nearly three weeks ago.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of the body as 22-year-old Garth Sangree. He was last seen Friday, January 23, and was believed to have gone kayaking the next day off Jacksonville Beach. He didn’t show up for church Sunday so friends went looking, and found his truck, but no sign of Sangree.

The Coast Guard searched for several days with no luck.

The Sheriff’s Office says Sangree’s death has been ruled accidental drowning.
