Neighbors of a St. Petersburg man are angry he built a gun range in his backyard.
According to WFLA, Joseph Carannate plans to fire his 9-mm. handgun a few feet from where children play.
Carannate said he has all the right paperwork for his gun and wants to use it in his year every other weekend, evening warning his neighbors in advance of when he wants to fire rounds.
Some neighbors say they're furious, but police say it's perfectly legal because Florida law only prohibits "recklessly or negligently" firing a gun outdoors. When police came to Carannate's home, they found no reason to arrest him.
A County Commissioner doesn't think it makes sense to have a gun range in a residential neighborhood and plans to look into the issue.
