House GOP rolls out agenda for final election push

With seven weeks until Election Day, Republicans in the U.S. House gathered on the steps of the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday to unveil a GOP legislative road map for 2021, urging the voters to knock Democrats out of power in the U.S. House.

Dubbed the “Commitment to America,” the overarching House Republican goals include defeating the Coronavirus, rebuilding the economy, and creating new opportunities for Americans.

“Republican policies will return our nation to the best economy in history,” said House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy.

“The GOP is a party with a plan,” said Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).

The list of policy ideas includes:

+ Tripling resources for rapid COVID-19 tests.

+ Extra emergency aid for small businesses hit by the Coronavirus.

+ Nationwide high-speed internet access for every household in America.

+ A major infrastructure bill for new roads and bridges.

+ School choice polices.

+ Opposing efforts to cut funding for police.

+ Protect religious liberties.

The release of the GOP plan brought back echoes of the the 1994 “Contract With America” touted by House Republicans and future Speaker Newt Gingrich, indicating how they would govern if the voters put them in charge on Capitol Hill.

But the big difference is that in 1994, the Democrats were in charge of the White House, giving the GOP the chance to make a much starker comparison than now.
