Don’t just come to Florida for the weather. Going to college in the Sunshine State is another plus.

In a new ranking by Wallet Hub, Florida had multiple cities ranked as some of the best college towns in the United States, with Gainesville, home to the University of Florida, leading the way at No. 5. The rest of the top five includedn Ann Arbor, Mich. at No. 1, followed by College Station, Texas; Iowa City, Iowa; and Provo, Utah.

Other Florida cities found on the best list were Orlando (UCF, 20), Tallahassee (FSU  22), and Tampa (USF and the University of Tampa, 30). Near the bottom of the list were Boca Raton (83), West Palm Beach (96), Miami (100), Fort Lauderdale (125), Jacksonville (232), and Port St. Lucie (289).

The list was compiled by judging 326 U.S. cities and towns on their academic, social and economic opportunities for students as well as other key factors, such as the quality of higher education, crime rates and the cost of living. Gainesville scored well for “youth-oriented environment” and opportunities. West Palm Beach and Boca Raton had the highest marks in “youth-oriented environment.”

South Florida needs to step up its college town game. Miramar, Coral Springs, and Hialeah were ranked among the worst college towns by Forbes earlier this year.
