A U.S. Forest Service firefighter became the first casualty in California’s Dixie Fire, authorities said Saturday.
Three other first responders have been injured, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
No further information has been released about the victim, KOVR reported.

The blaze, which has raged since July 13, has burned 889,001 acres, or 1,389 square miles, in Butte, Plumas, Lassen, Shasta and Tehama counties, KCRA reported. The fire, the second-largest wildfire recorded in California history, was 56% contained as of Saturday evening, Cal Fire said.
The largest fire was the 2020 August Complex, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The Dixie Fire has destroyed at least 1,282 structures, including 688 homes, according to KCRA. It is currently ranked No. 14 among California’s most destructive fires, according to Cal Fire.
