According to the Macon Telegraph, U.S. Marshals and Washington County sheriff’s deputies arrested Jamarius Khalil Dixon, 19, on charges of murder and first-degree cruelty to children Wednesday, one week after his girlfriend’s 1-year-old son was pronounced dead at a Macon hospital.

In a statement shared Wednesday on Facebook, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Coliseum Northside Hospital on Feb. 24 after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant.

“It was stated that a 1-year-old male infant was taken to the hospital by his mother and her roommate/boyfriend after noticing that the infant became unresponsive,” the news release said. “After arriving at the hospital emergency room, the infant, Jayce Gibson, was pronounced deceased.”

An autopsy revealed that Gibson had died from head trauma, according to the release.

Authorities later apprehended Dixon, the “roommate/boyfriend” of the child’s mother, “at a family residence,” the Sheriff’s Office said. The Telegraph, citing a U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force official, reported that the arrest occurred at the home of the suspect’s mother, where authorities discovered Dixon “hiding under a bed.”

Dixon remains jailed without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, officials said.
