Sadie the bullsnake received acupuncture last week at the New Mexico Wildlife Center, KOB reported.

Dr. Sarah Sirica performed the treatment on Sadie, who is over 20 years old. The snake recently recovered from multiple bouts with pneumonia and near the end of his recovery, staff discovered Sadie was suffering from a spinal issue, likely a slipped disc, Jessica Schlarbaum, the New Mexico Wildlife Center’s communications and outreach manager, told KOB.

On the wildlife center’s Facebook page, Sadie can be seen undergoing acupuncture treatment, which involves the use of tiny needles. Acupuncture will help stimulate the snake’s nerves during physical therapy, according to the center’s Facebook post.

Sadie will receive an MRI and CT Scan to determine the exact cause of the spinal issues, but for now, the acupuncture treatment seems to be helping, staff said.
