CAROLINA FOREST, S.C — A South Carolina elementary school teacher and her two children were found dead in their house on Wednesday in the Carolina Forest area, according to police.
According to a news release from the Horry County Police Department, just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday officers were conducting a welfare check at a house. The officers found three people dead inside the house.
According to WYFF, the three people were found with gunshot wounds. HCPD referenced that the death of the two young children was due to a shooting incident in the news release.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Laura Moberley, 42, Eric Moberley, 11 and Emily Moberly 8, according to WYFF.
WYFF said that Horry County Schools confirmed to them that Laura was a reading loss interventionist at Carolina Forest Elementary School and that she had started working with the district in 2018.
HCPD said they worked with Horry County Fire Rescue, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Child Fatality Unit and Horry County Coroner’s Office to investigate the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, said HCPD. Investigators said do not believe that there is any threat to the community. No further information has been released.
