The 2010s had some incredible songs that were the backdrop of so many memories made this decade! Here’s the most iconic jams of the ‘10s.
Call Me Maybe
Take a random chick from Canada, add an annoyingly catchy tune and get JBiebs to endorse her and you get the Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe” phenomenon. This song sounds like getting driven to the mall by your mom with your three best pals screaming it with you in the back.
Party Rock Anthem
12 year olds everywhere were breaking it down to this ‘Sexy and I Know It’ tune from LMFAO. These guys are probably DJing some underground club in Miami right now, but no one would know because they literally just disappeared after dropping some of the greatest hits of the 2010s.
Fancy
First things first this song was the REALEST bop of the summer of 2014. I can still smell the scent of sunscreen in the air on my way to summer camp. We’ve yet to get another hit like this again from Iggy...but there’s always next decade?
Wrecking Ball
AKA the end of all of our childhoods...when Miley came in swinging in butt naked...we knew the squeaky clean Disney star we’d all grown up with was gone for good. At least the song smashed. Pun intended.
Thrift Shop
This quirky rap made everyone want to run to their local Goodwill and ball out. You’re absolutely LYING if you say you didn’t want one of these killer fur coats after seeing the video.
What Makes You Beautiful
One Direction came in SWINGING with this song that would define a generation of fan girls who religiously followed their vlogs and XFactor journey. Whether you were the type to go to every concert or stay up until 2AM reading Harry Styles WattPad fan fics, if you followed One Direction, you’re probably still holding out hope that they’ll get back together in 2020. They’re still on hiatus...right?! RIGHT?!
Thinking Out Loud
Speaking of British guys who get us in our feels...Ed Sheeran made literally every couples wedding song in 2014. This sweet love song was a dreamy anthem for those in love everywhere...and for everyone else to well, just dream.
Closer
You could not walk into a bar/club/party without hearing this song throughout the night. Honestly, I feel a little buzzed anytime I hear it. Closer was the banger 2016 absolutely needed and deserved, not to mention it launched their (and Halsey’s!) career.
thank u, next
When you Google the word ‘iconic’ this music video pops up. Not only did this song bring together social stars everywhere for an absolutely amazing video, it closed out that weird Ari/Pete engagement season. Our kids will DEFINITELY be vibing to this song in 2050.
Old Town Road
If any song was gonna close out the decade it NEEDED to be Old Town Road. This song was the perfect mix of weird, country and rap to make it an absolute banger. This song also gave us Lil Nas X and his wacky tweets, and for that, we’re forever grateful.
