Help is on the way from Florida as the state of Texas continues to recover from winter weather that blanketed the region with snow, causing power outages and issues with drinking water.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried has authorized the deployment of 30 Florida Forest Service personnel. They’re set to leave Saturday for the trip to the Randolph Air Force Base Auxiliary east of San Antonio.

“My heart goes out to the citizens of Texas who are suffering through life-threatening sub-zero temperatures, power outages, severely iced roads, and other emergencies,” Fried says in a statement. “I am pleased to authorize the deployment of our Green Incident Management Team, composed of our hardworking Florida Forest Service personnel.”

Deputy Chief of Field Operations John Kern will serve as the incident commander.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management requested assistance from the Florida Division of Emergency Management on Thursday, and the personnel from Florida will help manage a staging area. It will serve as a place where people can get generators, blankets, water, meals and other life-sustaining supplies.
