Jacksonville, FL — The next time you're in downtown Jacksonville, you may notice some changes.
Not-for-profit organization Downtown Vision has installed approximately 40,000 new programmable LED lights on Laura Street in downtown, from Duval Street to Water Street.
Downtown Vision says the 'Lights on Laura' spans 40 trees and will remain up throughout the year to help keep downtown festive, with plans to program the lights by season, holiday, or for major events in the area.
"Creating a sense of place is critical to a vibrant Downtown experience. We've gotten so much positive feedback on the holiday 'Lights on Laura' in years past, so we're pleased to double down with these new lights to keep Downtown shining year round," says Terry Durand-Stuebben, Immediate Past Chair of Downtown Vision.
The organization says the trees will be re-wrapped on a yearly basis to keep the trees healthy and growing.
Downtown Vision says the light installation is part of its 'Lively and Beautiful Sidewalks' program to turn passive spaces into active public spaces.
