After more than a year of investigating, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has arrested a couple for criminal activity at their health care practice.
We first told you back in May that FDLE has raided the office of 74-year-old Asok Roy. The Florida Department of Health also suspended his license, following claims that he traded drugs and exams for sexual acts, among other things. He's now been booked in to the St. Johns County Jail for five counts of solicitation to commit prostitution, two counts of writing a prescription for monetary benefit, two counts of falsely omitting information on a document or report, and one count of being principle to practicing a health care profession without a license.
His wife, 72-year-old Manjula Roy, has also been arrested for practicing as a health care professional without a license.
The FDLE says they conducted multiple undercover operations, interviews, and search warrants as part of their investigation. This was done in cooperation wiht the North Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, DEA Diversion, and FDOH.
We’re working to get more details on the arrests and will update as that becomes available. Both suspects were released from the Jail a few hours after being booked.
Records with FDOH claim Roy exploited “patients’ addiction and/or economic circumstances for his own sexual gratification”. He also allegedly prescribed controlled substances without an appropriate exam or any exam at all, and allowed his wife to practice- including handing out pre-signed prescriptions- even though she was not licensed. Roy’s wife would allegedly present herself to patients as a doctor or retired doctor.
Roy has since relinquished his license to practice medicine.
