St. Augustine: How the Bridge of Lions statues got their face masks

Jacksonville, FL — Wolfgang Shau tells Action News Jax that he and his wife, Miki, donated thousands of masks to the city of St. Augustine’s first responders.

Shau is managing director at Hans-Mill corporation. He tells us they ordered masks for their employees to have on the job, and to use in their time away from work.

In March, Shau says he and his wife donated about 2,000 masks they hand on-hand to the city of St. Augustine to give to first responders, and then they ordered about 7,000 more through the company’s supply chain to give to the city.

In recent weeks, Shau tells Action News Jax that they placed large masks on the Bridge of Lions statues as a reminder to the public to take measures to protect themselves and others amid the pandemic.
