Jacksonville FL — Consumer Warrior Clark Howard is back with some tips on how to raise your credit score. He says if you have no credit, then you should be ok if you get at least two different credit cards from two different companies and charge a little on them.
“A major credit card: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, any of those is a major credit card.” Clark says.
A debit card doesn’t count.
If you have a few more cards and large balances, then Clark suggests using as little of your available credit as possible since large balances can harm your credit score. He says you should never charge more than 30% of your credit limit on any card.
“So if you have a $1,000 limit on a card, you never want to use more than like 300 bucks of that available credit.” Clark says.
