Child dies in Oakleaf crash

Jacksonville, FL — An 8-year-old child has died following a two car crash in the Oakleaf area.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a Lakeland woman was driving with her two children eastbound on Oakleaf Plantation Parkway, and another woman driving a small red SUV was heading westbound on Argyle Forest Boulevard. As the woman in the red SUV entered the intersection, the Lakeland woman with the children made a left turn in front of the vehicle, according to FHP. The passenger side of the Lakeland woman’s vehicle was hit.

The mother and the other child, who is 9-years-old, suffered minor injuries. The FHP crash report says the 8-year-old who died, Angel Rios, was restrained. The driver of the red SUV- a Jacksonville woman- was not hurt, and did stay on scene and cooperate with the investigation.

FHP says charges are pending further investigation.
